if you want to fish the Nolan you should launch at Kimball Bend and have much shorter and safer run.

This^^^^^ for sure. Unless you are wanting to ride around and “see the lake”. If you are specifically wanting to fish the river put in @ Kimball Bend Park or even further up river(and more expensive fees) @ Hamms Creek Park. Hamms Creek is a long way upstream from the Nolan but good access to the upper Brazos River. Kimball Bend is a very short run down to the Nolan. Running up into the Nolan from the Brazos is a little risky. If you have Navionics mapping stay IN the river channel from the mouth until the defined river begins(big trees)...... or idle. If you are planning to be on the lake anyway and simply want the option of running up the river “yes” it can be done safely. As mentioned when heading north from lake towards the river once you get between Cedar Creek and White Bluff(Google it) the scattered trees start showing up(or just below surface) until you hit the actual river. It’s not crazy and again if you have GPS mapping just follow the Brazos River channel and you will be fine.
