Yeah Bob, burning time during WAWIโs pandemic was quite a challenge. Last fall I was just one Blue Moon post away from ordering the $9 blood test off of Amazon and going rogue with my lab work too. Luckily Mudshark got s-canned from Twitter and came back to the TFF.
Well, what can we talk about now?

Are you seriously surprised the military made a mistake? What if they gave my A+ blood to someone who needed A-?

I spelled my middle name incorrect for almost 30 years of my life. My DD-214 and all my records have my middle name spelled incorrectly.
My dad and I share the same name and he corrected me on it later in life, I was dumbfounded. Everything from age 30 and younger I did has an incorrectly spelled middle name.
I know itโs a middle name but still....wow how the heck do ya screw up spellin sue?

It is well known in the Army medical community that AF personnel with negative blood types change to positive about six months after they leave the AF. Army medical studies have shown that AF staff that change branches and join the Army all turn positive within six months. Research shows that the superior living quarters and exceptional mess halls as well as the relaxed work environment contribute to the positive change.

"So, how could the military have analyzed my blood type as A- when it was A+?"
A simple mistake by a government employee/contractor/vendor/laboratory that _could_ have cost you or someone else their life. Happens all the time.
I'm 72 and when I was going through the (US Army) physical exams in 1968 the Dr (?) asked me about my heart - my answer was that yes, I've been told I have a heart murmur on every 3rd or 4th beat. He listened with his stethoscope and said "Oh, that's no problem" and poof - I was fit for service. I served 4 years and change but I was never able to run 2 miles in under 20 minutes - gee, I wonder why .? . ? . ? .
Fast forward to last October when I had an "issue" - a Transient Ischemic Episode which I hope I never experience again. During the testing procedures I went through over the next six weeks my heart was found to have two issues- One was a congenital defect in which a passageway between two areas of the heart "Septal defect" they called it and it affects an opening between two areas of the heart that is open during womb-time but is designed to close up after birth. That defect never closed in my heart and it is still open to this day. The other issue was a clogged vein/artery in my heart that was fixed almost immediately by my cardiologist five days after diagnosis (2 weekend days) by a cardiac catheterization & stent placement in the affected blood vessel. I went home the next day and continue to be "right as rain".
We have many advances in the years since 1968 . . . . . . My congenital defect was "no problem" in 1968, but today I would be immediately classified 4F Medical.
Our government serves we the people . . . . . .

When I was in the USAF, basic training, they tested my blood and said I was A Neg. blood type. They put it on my dog tags A Neg. I still have the dog tags. Then 9 years later, here in Dallas, the Wadley blood mobile showed up in the parking lot. They took some blood and I got a letter from them afterwards thanking me for the A Positive blood donation. I remember calling them and disputing it but they were adamant about it being A Positive. So two days ago, I ordered two Blood Type kits from Amazon. (Eldon cards and lancets ect.) Today I did the test as per the Instructions and it showed A Positive. My wife knew hers from the doctors when she had our daughters. So she was the control. We did the test on her and sure enough, it showed exactly what the Doctors told her years ago.
So, how could the military have analyzed my blood type as A- when it was A+? I remember in the middle of the nights being awakened by the TI to get dressed and report to Wilford hall to give blood. There were Vietnam vets coming back into the hospital that needed blood. Okay, that's terrifying.... I'm type A+ as well... Mine is a F-

When you donate blood they test it again. They donโt just take your word for it.
