Seems the big fish record breaking is spreading. Good article.

Well if it was like down here the Covid lockdowns just resulted in more fisherman fishing more often catching more fish. So there's bound to be a few bigger ones caught.

Texas has over 100 named lakes and over 3500 named streams. Any angler can catch 5 Texas waterbody records in a year, if they are willing to find out about the record rules and put in the time.

Texas lake records should be simple. The biggest. Period. Not a “backwards reeled fly rod catch” or a “I caught a decent fish and let my kid hold it for a picture and “jr record””. Too many rules. Too many records (participation awards). Just my opinion from a grumpy old guy.

The “let my kid hold it for a picture and “jr” record.” is an issue for any record program. Sadly there will always be individuals willing to cheat and that hurts everybody. The addition of length records has been a big improvement to many of the record programs, since it allows you to release the fish and still get a record. As for the records using different methods, I am probably not the best person to address that issue since I have achieved records with a hand line, Plnor, fly rod, bow and arrow, rod and reel, line class, tippet class, catch and release rod and reel, fly rod catch and release, and even a line class world record fish I caught with a rod and reel I made with over 1500 pipe cleaners that is in Ripley’s Believe It Or Not. All of the records are available to other anglers and I just enjoy documenting records. It has given me a whole new level of fun every time I put my hook in the water.
