Thanks for posting this. I had no idea this could be done. I'm having a new HDS9 Touch installed this week and having this added. If you have the NEMA network, it take 1 inexpensive cable. Only works on engines 2006 or later?

Yes this setup works with most 2006 and later Yamaha Outboards. And only requires the one interface cable and a network Tee if you already have a NEMA 2000 network installed and your engine was not rigged using the Command Link connector in the original post.

Good Luck!

RCarter - Glad you got 'er done! Hope it's working good for you!

Thanks Nic!

I had looked at installing an hour meter earlier this year...but this is a far better deal. Thanks again for your initial post!

Which probe did you get?

Very nice article.
I installed NMEA on my ZX190 and have my Humminbirds connected.
Now that you don't need the Tach/Trim gauge (if yours is combined) treat yourself to a LMF-400 gauge. Very nice. It also will display any engine fault codes that are put onto the interface cable.

Lowrance is light years ahead of HB on NMEA but since I already had a significant investment in my HBs I used them.
I also have a Garmin NMEA2000 GPS and an Airmar 235khz NMEA2000 transducer. Still working on a good location for the transducer, not a lot of room in the bilge.

For water pressure on the 175 HDPIs there is a different sensor to install to feed it through the interface cable.

Does it show the hours on your motor? I have a yamaha v150 and an hds8. I had thought about installing the command link system but if this willnshow engine temp water pressure and engine hours I would much rather go this route. Thanks also where can I get more info on all this?

Andy Joe,

It does show the hours on the motor and any other information that is being sent through the Yamaha Engine Computer to the NMEA Network. What is displayed on your Graph is dependent on what is available from your motor. Additional gauges like fuel level, fuel flow, Livewell Temp etc are available and can be tied into the NMEA network.

Here are some of the additional sensors available from lowrance

Lowrance NMEA 2000 info.
