I didn't go to mine and Mom was not happy. It took me six years. But I had to be in a friends wedding 300 miles away the same day.

You don't know what a beating is until you've attended a UT graduation at the Erwin Center. I love my daughter and I'm proud of her, but my gawd that was a beat down beginning to end.

Didn't know your son was at UTD - my son is graduating there in May, as well!

It has always been a weird liberal school.

May be weird to some but a fine school for others. Music School has a national/international reputation. Two degrees from there opened several doors for me.

My college graduation was on a Saturday and I had to start my new job 250 miles away on Monday. I was packing on Saturday, moving on Sunday, and working on Monday. Never even thought about graduation.

Both my wife and I graduated together in December of '80. We were both working 300 miles away from the school on graduation day. Could've cared less. Same for our parents who both happy we both had great jobs.

At MSU they wouldn't give you the diploma if you didin't show up to walk.

My wife's cousin is graduating from San Marcos here in several weeks, we're not going to the stage walk, but apparently anyone and everyone is welcome to attend.

Go comets! Yeah, he’s been a dorm cop since his sophomore year (aka RA). Helped with the tuition.

You did your job and so did she. She got a degree and she will get a job and probably making $40+ a year so be proud of what you and she did in four years. Save the money needed for the grad celebration and take a vacation to celebrate the success. The vacation memories will far outlast the graduation pomp.

Graduated UTD in Aug 1986, before it was a four year school.

Space junkie. You are spot on. We are taking a family vacation to Colorado as that was her request. Proud of her getting that degree in 4 years and the good news is she will probably start teaching elementary at 52,000. to 57,000. a year. The salaries have really gone up in the DFW area and she likes the area. Can't remember what I started at but probably was $20k or less. Now I pay part time clerks almost that much money annually. Its all good just sad to see what we have become as a country and wonder where we are headed.

If it makes any difference, the only reason that I walked the stage at my law school graduation was because my mother threatened to hurt me if I didn't go. I didn't go to my undergrad one and she was adamant that she was gonna see me walk the stage.

I started UNT in the late 70's, it was North Texas State University then. Graduated in 1990 (night school) after a long delay. Didn't walk the stage...just give me the diploma man.

Truth be told I didn't recognize it being liberal then. I'm sure times have changed though.
