Fishing on Lewisville today and saw a weird fish finning under the 380 bridge so my buddy kept trying to catch it until he accidentally snagged it. I've never seen a shad this big. [Linked Image]

That is a big one, but they can get bigger. MDNR states, “Gizzard shad are commonly found in the 8-14 inch range but may reach lengths of up to 18 inches or more.”

Nice shad! I caught one also but it was 16in and i caught it on a JIGLYF jig at Lake Amistad.

The big chill has hurt some of the shad populations with a few fish kills.

I fished for stripers on Lake Oauchita with 2lb shad. We going for 40 lb stripers.
