So this article is about bass, but it raises a question that applies to all fish. Does the color of metal blades on lures really matter? I have caught a lot of bass and trout on silver and gold lures, but according to this article they may not be able to tell the difference? I thought I had caught slightly more bass on gold, but maybe it's just my imagination? I am curious if copper would work also for bass as I have rarely used it for trout and never for bass?

Side Note: When fishing for trout I have seen this a lot. One angler would be using a Gold lure and the other angler a Silver lure. Both anglers are side by side and are retrieving their lures at the same speed. The angler using the Gold lure was easily out catching the angler using the Silver lure. It was easily a 10 to 1 ratio. It should also be noted the lures were the same size and make. Only the color was different.

well for bass, when they're biting on lures, I catch them on both colors, so that makes me think it's just the flash that attracts them. The secondary color I usually do well with pink, red or orange but other people do well with yellow, blue, purple, black or even green so maybe the color really doesn't matter.

I believe that just as important (as color) is how light reflects off the bait or lure in different light conditions for the body of water you are fishing. I feel like the success we have is a direct result of the chosen bait and color giving off the same or similar reflection as the actual food source. (In our case the food source being tilapia & shad)

I got some more lures at bass pro shop and, if the bass are still chasing artificials, I will be able to test silver gold and copper against each other this weekend.

So yesterday I tried a copper lure for about an hour with no bites. I switched to silver around 8 or 8:30 and picked up a few fish. Then later in the day I caught one big crappie on a gold spoon. I guess to be scientific I would have to try the copper at other times, maybe they just weren't biting yet at 7:30 though that seems unlikely. I think it's cause I wasn't hitting the right areas with it, but of course I will have to do some more testing to decide if copper is any good or not.
