I miss the little tournaments we used to have among friends down there where there was no prize for winning, but the loser bought everybody EB's.

Can I get brown gravy on the meatloaf? Yes, they do have Yankee gravy. Red sauce on meatloaf is nasty.

Can I get brown gravy on the meatloaf? Yes, they do have Yankee gravy. Red sauce on meatloaf is nasty. Warmed milk in white flour ain't too great either. Swap the milk for water and you've got grammar school paste, which tastes better as I recall.

There was a restaurant, thinking it was around Axton's, that had a fried quail special one night & seafood the next. I don't remember the name, but it was a dang good place to eat! I'd hurt myself there. Mid 90's

I seem to remember that place. Went there with David Vance after a long day of fishing. Was the place in Golden? I remember the quail.

AJ's was a great place to eat, we got our place at Fork in 2008, and were a rocks throw from the restaurant. The parking lot would be FULL. The best peel n eat shrimp, and great fried catfish at a good price... I hate to see them go,...

AJs sucked loudly, Seth's and Oakridge are the best places out there. Anything else is iffy. I include Tiffany's in the iffy pile too.

AJ’s was always good.
The problem out there is all those darn stubborn East Texas folks... mess up one time and they’ll never come back again. Whipped cream instead of meringue on a piece of pie was enough to make the folks I know out there vow to never eat at a place again. That’s for real. Meanwhile sonic or McDonald’s mess up orders all the time and they keep going back there. I feel for anyone trying to run a restaurant in that area.

I dont think Seth's is great by any measure. I think it's good for that area. I think oakridge is always a safe bet, I have been satisfied with everything I have eaten there, there are trips I have eaten there 5 of the 6 meals I have had while out there. Is it Pappas steak house, no, but there ain't a pappas steak house out there.
