So today was my first time fishing Lavon for Bass.... Newb question...

The brush line that lined the banks I was fishing were 30-40 feet thick and way to thick to cast up into and push through. Therefore, I kind of felt like I couldn't get my lures in deep enough to target the fish inside the brush/structure? Tips or advice? Perhaps the fish hold on the edge of this thick of brush and I just need to work the edge?

Just seemed weird not being able to cast up near the bank because of the extended brush line.

Give me your thoughts and advice? If anyone wants to dm and talk Lavon bass fishing I'd much appreciate it.

I was fishing north of 380 bridge. Is this typically decent bass fishing?

It’s a tough lake to learn. Fish relate to rock and shad. I never have a “great” day on that lake. I feel like they aren’t sitting tight to or deep in cover like they do on other lakes.

North of 380 is usually not the best area to fish . The lower end produces better fish most of the time .

Isolated timber in 3-8 feet this time of year. If you see a lone stump/tree 10-30ish yards off the bank, cast to it. Ill pm you a spot or two to check out.

We had a HS tournament there yesterday...one student pulled out a 11 lbr and is being moved to SAL for the lake.

We managed a few bites 1 keeper, 3.27 lbs, and 1 short.

All fish were being caught in pockets w/ 3-4' of water and sporadic brush. They were biting darker colors with blue and purple in them.

The 11 is going to Athens as a SAL? I thought that was 13+, I do know it will be entered into the elite class in the program. Did they check to see if it’s a jr. Lake record?

They do not put 11 pounders into the "program" at Athens

I asked the same...someone in the crowd said it was a youth lake record or something and they were documenting it. Not sure it made the trip the Athens, but it was recorded for sure. I left as the SAL rig pulled in.

11's don't go to SAL but can get recorded in the Elite Class which is 10+. They may not even be taking any more 13+'s either. They said no mas on the last 2 taken from Ivie because they already had so many.

Glad it was recorded as junior lake record, that’s 2 records in 2 weeks on that lake! I have a THSBA angler that’s waiting on his record catch to be approved.

Nice. We were there too. Didn't catch bass well one sand bass, blue cat and two drum. Son did have one about to grab his crankbait right when he pulled it out of the water. He only saw a huge mouth and then it flipped over and went back down. I heard it make a splash with its tail when it went back down. Blue cat caught on a bluegill swim bait. maybe 18" long.
