Morning all, Dad and I are heading to Conroe for a wedding and figured we would drag the boat since we will have free time on Thursday and Friday. Haven't fished Conroe since 1991. Expecting it to be tough, but don't want to waste any chance to fish with my dad and son. May let the boy fish for catfish while we go after Mr. Bass.
Any thoughts, advice or suggestions would be appreciated. have watched the 2017 Classic about 75 times and that was about this time of year, so that is a start. We will be around 1097 bridge.
Many thanks!
*New Info* Fishing was tough. My dad fished with my brother in law on Thursday and caught 0. They fished North of 1097 and east side of the lake. Water 63-65. Wind was blowing pretty good and they had a blanket of smoke to deal with from the fires. Based on a conversation with another angler, they fished too deep (5-20 ft). Other angler caught about 10- fishing shallow. Friday-7-12:00-We fished Friday morning and results were the same. Skunked! We fished Jordan lee's spot north of 1097 both shallow and deep. We then went across to Stow A Way area and Lake Paula, but no luck shallow. Wacky worms, jerkbaits, shallow and deep cranks, A rigs, jigs, c rigs. Saturday-6:45-10:00-Fished South end, water 62-63. We caught 1, got rid of the skunk! We fished both shallow and deep along bulk heads and rip rap with a lot of the same baits. The 15 incher we caught was off of Ike's area where he caught the 10#er in the Classic. Missed 2 other bites.
Looking back-We should have gone way North and fished shallow. We left with our tail between our legs so we plan to go back to Fayette to catch the stupid, easy fish!!
Thanks for all the help!

You can get plenty of bites shallow right now.
I haven't been North of the 1097 bridge in a month or two but my last 3 trips I've caught 10-15 each day. All shallow. I didn't physically see them on beds, but I'm certain they were.
My best bait has been a Spro McStick 95 in Spooky Shad. I'm sure I could have gotten bit on the 110 size, but never tried.
I also throwing a wacky rigged Grande Bass Salty Stick as well as a drop shot Zoom Trick Worm.
Pick a pocket, parallel the bulk head/docks and you'll get bit.

Not to be that guy, but you can pretty much catch them however you want to on Conroe right now. There are some that are up spawning, some pre-spawn, and some post spawn. Scotts ridge launch is on 1097, I would suggest launching there and run the banks on the north side of that arm.

Thanks guys, appreciate it. We like to fish cranks and c rigs off shore, but can mix it up when necessary.

Looks like a 10-15 NNE wind on Thursday and 5-10 ESE wind on Friday. Cooler nights in the 40s with highs in upper 60s. Glad we aren't fishing in today's wind. Thanks again.

Don’t feel bad. The only mistake you made was fishing Lake Conroe. You are either a hero or zero there and it changes by the day. It has good fish but it does not have a lot of them.
Thanks for the update though.

Thanks for the update though. This has been my epxerience out on Lake Conroe as well, best thing about the lake is the selection of bars/restaurants on the south end of the lake if you are brave enough to cross the tub.

Just don't put your boat in the water and drive over to the restaurants and bars on FM105.

Thanks for all the help! “Jordan Lee spot” was a community hole. Jordan made they community population go crazy. Fish became scared to show up because they might get hit in the head from all the casting.
