I know of a full time gay pirate who would have a budget much larger.

I usually chalk it up to family money. Unless they brag about it or post about it, you never know who has it. I was born to the wrong gene pool.

During the last real estate collapse in 2008 there were anecdotal stories about cost vs income on home loans. One was an $850,000.00 mortgage made by a single homeowner with the sole source of income having been a home daycare. Are we headed that way again?

Yep. Everyone gets a trophy, food stamps and a home loan up to $1M no matter what they earn. Because, well, racist.

In 2007 I was just married, self employed and pre-approved for a $1.5 million dollar mortgage. I quickly did the math and was like WTF I can't afford this [censored]. Not even close, maybe if I walked everywhere did dishes and laundry by hand, watched three channels of TV, and didn't pay my taxes. The banks were partially to blame for the collapse but the buyers needed to be held accountable too. de

Yeah, my sister had a similar experience around that time....the credit union told her what mortgage she could afford (more than double what she and her husband were looking to spend) and she politely told them, no, she could not afford that much of a house. She said she did not want to be poor the next 30 years while raising 4 kids. roflmao

That was pretty much what I was thinking too, I never told my wife the amount I was pre-approved for or I would be in the poor house. The dog house isn't too shabby and I don't mind sleeping in it every once in a while. sarcastic
