Anybody else? Now cut and sitting. Heckuva lot stronger than folding aluminum ... heck, a deadly weapon actually.

I have a multi-section staff like the Folstaff, but I don't use it anymore. I have had problems with the tip becoming caught between two rocks, and then when I pull up on it, the sections pull apart, leaving me with no support until I can push the sections back together. Mine is admitttedly a cheap copy of the Folstaff, but I have heard the same complaint from Folstaff owners. Now that I have become a doddery old man, whenever I find myself wading a rocky stream, I carry a wooden staff. It is relatively light, doesn't pull apart, and floats on the water when I am not using it. I attach it to my belt with a length of nylon rope. If it is lost, big deal, there are a lot of sticks lying around.

I have never had any issues with my FolStaff coming apart at the joints while in use. Quite the opposite, in fact. If I had a complaint about it, this would be it, but a few light taps will dislodge stuck joints. If you use the same ferrule wax that you’re supposed to use on your fly rod ferrules, this is a non-issue.

JR, I wish I had gotten the FolStaff instead of the Simms. Saved a few bucks at the beginning because it was on sale but that has faded away with return shipping and such. Good thing Simms sends me a new one or I would be angry at myself. If I have to get another sometime it will be a FolStaff or maybe more of the REI poles on sale 2for $30.

I've used the Folstaf for years with no problems. I hear service and warranty are outstanding although I have never needed it. Would strongly reccomend it for a high-quality accessory.

Thanks for all of the comments. Simms has the wading staff back in stock so I ordered one after watching a YouTube video of the setup.
