Are the bream shallow right now with the lake getting in the 60's or does it not get really good till the temp hits 70°?

I mainly fish rivers and have been catching all flavors of gills. The red ear are just finishing up their spawn so it will be slow for them now but the bluegills and coppernose have the feed bag on getting ready for their spawn. I dont pay attention to water temperature as the fish dont have thermometers anyways

Usually 68 degrees is ideal for shallow Bluegill/Sunfish for spawning. As the warmer months approach the sunfish will be getting more active each day. Basics for me are. Spring. Sunfish are active searching for food and getting ready for spawn. Summer. Sunfish move to deeper water. (How deep depends on the water body) deeper water on some creeks I fish can be 3 feet deep. In lakes and nice rivers usually 6 to 12 feet of water. Docks, overhanging tree limbs, and stick ups are good places to find summer Bluegill/Sunfish. Fall. Sunfish are back very active looking to fatten up before winter. Water 4 to 10 feet deep by grass beds. Docks, overhanging tree limbs, brush piles, and stick ups will all be holding some nice fish. Winter. The sunfish bite for the most part slows down. Fish move to deeper water again depending on the water body how deep, deeper water is. In lakes and nice rivers water 12 to 18 feet deep by grass beds and drop offs hold some nice fish. Also take advantage of the warm spells during the winter especially on ponds and small lakes. Sunfish love the warmer conditions and seem to get active during the winter warm spells. These are some very basic tips that work for me. The more you fish for Bluegill/Sunfish the better you will get on their patterns. Also remember their patterns can change slightly on each different water body and areas you are fishing in. Jesse...The lakes I fish, the sunfish are just starting to move into the shallow areas looking for food and spawning areas. In power plant lakes the magic water temp seems to be around 75 degrees, but in the rest of the lakes & creeks it is much lower like 65-70 degrees. I pay very close attention the the water temp & follow the patterns year to year. Good luck finding these guys & looking forward to your future reports...

My bait of choice is the Gulp Alive 1" minnow...but I'm not a "champion"
