Hopefully the big freeze took care of some of these critters! It is that time of year. Pic was taken the day after the big freeze/snow fall in February. I was fixing a broken pipe and moved some tires and there it was I have learned to have an eye for them after being bitten on the inner thigh by a recluse a couple of years ago. The best way i can describe the pain is at first when it bit me it felt like a mosquito. It was in my pants so i just squished it not knowing what it was and headed out the door. By lunch still no pain but an intense itching and redness around the bite. By the eavning it was intense pain like a professional soccer player had kicked me in the inner thigh as hard as he could multiple times. This pain lasted 10 days. I wouldn't wish this pain on anyone! Dr. Couldnt prescribe anything but pain meds but i refuse to take them. The thing that helped most was prid. It's a drawing salve in a little orange tin they sell at walmart. It's worth its weight in gold as far as im concerned

We call them fiddle backs, but I can't see the fiddle in your pic. Nasty little buggers. [

I've been bitten once on the back of my left calf and that was one too many times. Ended up with the doc having to trim out the wound and it took forever to heal!

Gar
Iām sure your treating MD told you this but I will mention it anyway. The danger increases with repeat bites. The reaction can be more severe from a second exposure to the toxin in the spider bite. I lost one of my pharmacy patients in exactly this way. Her first recluse bite was similar to what you described. The second one had her in the hospital within hours. Sadly she did not come home.
You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free

Thank you for that info Doc, I was not aware of this. I now feel like a cat that's lived 8 of its lives I guess I'll have to start being extra careful

I have been in the pest control business for over 40 years , have been bitten by Recluse multiple times. Depending upon bite location, some people lose extremities, fingers toes etc... There are a few deaths associated with brown recluse bites, but they happen ! Debris , material not moved over time creates an ideal habitat. Suggest looking on web .. venomous spiders of North Texas. Recluse spiders can live more than 4 years.
Wear gloves when working in cluttered areas and always always put pants inside the boots or tie pant legs , rubber bands, twine, etc ...
