I know he is a great angler but for the life of me, I can't believe he fishes Big Sam's grass beds with a spinning rod and reel with 10 lb line. If a 10 lb bass gets in the grass, it becomes a 20 lb bass ! I see he lost some more fish today. I realize that he is a great fisherman and did well even losing those fish but man, I still think he has no one to blame but himself for losing them. I would feel uncomfortable using any line under 15 lbs on a baitcaster in the grass. Spinning gear has its place but surely not on the grass beds. My opinion only !

Never test the depth of the water with both feet.

It's certainly not my style of fishing.

Lucas grew up fishing the California Delta which is loaded with vegetation. He lives near Guntersville now. I am betting he was using that light of line to get the action he wanted in order to get bites. Seems no one else was on that quality of fish. I think he gambled line size to generate bites.

That lake has multiple tournaments every weekend. It gets as much pressure as Fork now days. Finesse fishing gets you a lot of bites out there.

He had the bites to win or be close. The spinning rod let him down today. Same as clausen. Could've won it with that one fish

We use fluorocarbon line because it supposedly is less visible. I never understood having to go to 10# test in cover.

I do think baits act differently when there is less line drag with thinner line. But how much does it matter?

I felt bad for him. He had the winning fish on.

Could anyone tell what he was throwing to get those bigger bites in those grass beds?

I always use braid in the grass. No need for fluorocarbon.

I agree. Risk/reward and if that’s what it takes to get the action needed to get the bites, you take your chances vs not getting those bites.

He posted this on his FB page a few hours ago:

Super thankful for a top 5 this week on Sam Rayburn! I was getting my butt kicked the first 1.5 days of the tournament and completely turned it around after my big bite on day 2. There’s some people out there trying to give me advice and critique me on my equipment and how I fought the fish on a spinning rod, but what they don’t know is that is literally the only way you can get those fish to bite. I would do it all the exact same way if I had to do it over again. I grew up out west and fighting big fish on a spinning rod is in our blood!! I appreciate all the support from everyone so much! Heavy Hitters is next!

He's been very successful in the past and will continue to do so in the future.

He's won like $2.8 million and he's 34 years old. I think he may have this fishing thing figured out a little better than some of y'all trying to "Monday morning QB" his performance.

I’m going to side with the guy who has won millions of dollars fishing. I’m betting he knew what he was doing.

He is one of the best in the game. Was pulling for him this past week.
