Pardon me for jumping in here and saying this but somewhere this group has taken a turn away form the thread title. I'm reading to see how we can "cut the gun deaths by 50% overnight" and all I'm seeing is stories copy and pasted about some dude named Hunter. How the heck did we get here?

I'm reading to see how we can "cut the gun deaths by 50% overnight" and all I'm seeing is stories copy and pasted about some dude named Hunter. How the heck did we get here? that was me and I am simply pointing out the fact that the dam guns are not the problem, enforcement of our current laws is pretty dam spotty and has been for a long time. look up the prosecutions for lying on the 4473 Lying on Form 4473 is a felony punishable by up to ten year's imprisonment. For being a user of unlawful drugs in possession of a firearm, the punishment is up to five years in prison.Dec 29, 2019 Pro Tip: Don't lie on federal forms - Finney Law Firm we currently have laws as well as questions on the 4473 form, lie on that and you are supposed to be facing felony charges, why are they not prosecuted? it would keep guns out of the hands of bad guys, wouldn't it? going after guns/gun owners is akin to going after cars and drivers for what dui drivers cause on the hiway, stupid from the getgo. it is not about "gun control" rather it is all about control over the populace, there is no other justifiable reason to do what the socialists are trying to do. a disarmed society is a compliant society, see north korea, venezuala, cuba, china and a few others.

They can cut gun deaths by 50% overnight if they stop counting suicides as gun violence. If folks they jump off a bridge do we call it bridge violence? That said here's an interesting article on some other approaches that could reduce gun deaths. I know a lot of guys on here are 100% against any additional restrictions, but folks on here are not a very good sample of the broader population. That said, here's where there seems to be broad support across both parties: 1. Requiring background checks on all gun sales for all buyers (retail & private) 2. Tighter restrictions on folks with mental illness purchasing guns 3. Nationwide ban on the sale of guns to people convicted of violent crimes 4. Barring gun purchases by people on no-fly or watch lists The common theme of the items above is that it restricts bad users, not the actual weapons. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive...-reduce-shootings.html?auth=login-googleThat all sounds great until the government decides church-goers, Trump voters, home-schoolers, unvaccinated people, etc have a “mental illness” or need to be on a “watch list.” They basically already say that now. Democrats and anti-gun politicians don’t care about stopping violence; they care about disarming those that stand in their way of a total authoritarian takeover. If you give an inch, they take away your job, freedom, and over a year of your life and still counting. The “mass shootings” will continue to intensify until they sway public opinion. We just showed them this past year how easily we can be scared into submission.

On a side note on the gun suicide thing. If you use a gun to kill yourself, and the bullet goes through the roof of the car, the insurance company totals out the car.
May you be treated the way you treat other people, today and everyday!
