When I traveled down the Miss. river,I met these two guys at the first lock about 20 miles below Minneapolis...one was from Chicago and other from Boston...they had built this raft themselves,put an old 25 hp merc on back and decided to travel down the river "just for the hell of it'....told them I could relate that...often wondered if or how far they made
it....

I think so if they would stay out far enough to where the they were dealing with swells rather than crashing waves....my big concern would have been trying to control that boat while going down the narrow open channel through St. Louis with all the towboat traffic and strong current.....I think that raft/boat had tiller steering but even with conventional steering/small engine I believe it would be really hard to control especially in wind and current.....the big difference when tom sawyer and huckleberry flynn traveled down the Mississippi river,they didn't have to deal with getting washed over rock dikes or getting run over by towboats....

Did they have any kind of registration on that rig since it had a motor? Figure some LAW would nail them.
