Lake Somerville's spillway has been one of my favorite local fishing spots since I first moved to the Bryan/College Station area for school in 2016. It isn't the most scenic spot, and it can get a bit crowded sometimes, but over the years, I've caught almost everything that swims in Texas there. When the spillway is open, the catfish and bass fishing is phenomenal, and when it's closed, the carp, gar and buffalo fishing can't be beat. The carp here aren't necessarily huge, but they're big enough to put up a fight, and will bite quickly. However, in late 2020, the access road for the spillway was closed for construction. Now it's March 2021, the construction is still underway, and we hadn't been having much luck fishing other spots around somerville. We decided to pay for entry into the Somerville Marina and Overlook park, which extends past the road closure. Once we found a parking spot in the park near the dam road, we just walked the rest of the way in. But all of this was well worth the effort, as we had the entire spillway to ourselves and the carp were on fire! We landed 7 commons in the few hours we were fishing, which is hands-down the most we've caught in one afternoon previously. Thanks for the report. That's a fun day. They are incredible to catch, especially on a fly rod.

I was looking to catch some on my fly rod on the main lake a couple days ago but there weren't any shallow at the time. I saw carp spawning on the Brazos river this weekend so I bet they are looking for any moving water they can find to spawn.

Thank y'all! I think I'm going to try to get a video at Yegua Creek next. I caught my current PB smallmouth buffalo around this time last year from there, along with my PB (at the time) common carp when they were spawning.
