If I’m designing my own rifle to take on an assault, it would require high capacity magazines and fully automatic capabilities. Others features would be negotiable.

Well the definition of a rifle is any firearm with a rifled barrel, and the definition of assault is an attack that threatens or causes physical harm. So by those definitions, my 5 year old's nerf elite dart gun became an assault rifle when he whacked my 10 year old over the head with it yesterday.

What the folks wanting to "get them off the street" is only a look-alike to what the real assault rifles carried by our military today. The AR-15s are, by law, a legal semi-automatic rifle that just looks like a few of the rifles in use today, most of which can be fired as automatic or semi-automatic. What scares folks (like 1Shot ) is not much more than a semi-automatic .22 rifle that is usually the first rifle a dad will buy for his son when he starts shooting/hunting.
