Anyone have any recommendations for a good place to stay close to Welsh?

Pittsburgh and Daingerfield does not have any decent places to stay. I don't know anything about the Lucky Lure, but Mt. Pleasant will have some nice hotels.

Holiday Inn Express Mt Pleasant. Right around $100/nite. Well lit, plenty of room to park boat and roughly 15-20 minutes to ramp. I asked for room that was facing parking lot so I could check on the boat during then night. Only drawback is lack of plugins for onboard charger.

Is Welsh still as crazy crowded as it has been?

Not sure about Daingerfield but Pittsburg has a relative new motel with large parking area. North side of town next door to where Pizza Inn used to be.

Rumor is that Welch will be shut down & closed like Monticello, the latter part of 21 or early 2022.

It's coal-fired, so it's almost a given that it will be, just like so many others, But don't worry, it's all going to be okay. If we were ever to have a really, really bad Winter, we would still have plenty of available electricity! Everybody knows that those power plants weren't really necessary!
