 No Stimulus check for me-but local prisoners getting them

If I had waited to file my 2020 taxes I would have gotten stimulus for family of 5 based on 2019. Wonder if I would have had to pay it back on next years return? Or am I simply getting the shaft for filing early? Meanwhile inmates in jails and prisons' will get the checks. Wonder if they stick it in their commissary account? Ill bet the weaker inmates will be getting pressured to give their stimulus to other inmates.

You shouldn't have filed early, but you can still hurry out and get yourself arrested, then strong arm a few weak inmates and get 3 stimulus checks.

Yah you screwed yourself by filing early. That is the actual reason I have not filed yet. IRS stimulus trackers says I get my funds Wednesday, I will file this weekend once it processes.

If you still have eligibility for 401k and/or HSA contributions there is still time to make those effective 2020 and possibly bring AGI below the cap. You would then file an amended tax return and a form for a claim on the payment.

This is all very confusing
I did not get any checks last year as they based it on 2019. I have not filed 2020 yet but I think I would qualify since I was unemployed for 5 months thanks to our national over reaction... But they did not direct deposit me anything, which makes sense since I did not file 2020 yet.
AND they sent 1$400 to my wife last week who did qualify in 2020 based on her 2019 returns and got two checks in 2020. She has not filed 2020 yet and will NOT qualify this year based on her income in 2020. So she will have to pay back the $1400 they just sent her?
This is all a mess. It was not targeted to those who needed it. I was unemployed though no fault of my own and got nothing (and NO I was not making more on unemployment!) while the wife made the most she has ever made in a year by far and got checks coming left and right...
The Boston bomber got a check, rapists are getting checks, etc. The whole thing is a huge joke. BUT Wal Mart has 75 inch TVs for $700 lined up right as you walk in. I am sure they will move a lot of those. You know... to help those impacted by COVID.

For some reason I feel like my Mom got ahold of them or he was able to sign the funds to her or something. They do not allow you have that much on your books.... to prevent rich guys from being too powerful in prison there is a cap on how much you can spend or have in a month.

Not 100% sure on this, but when I did my 2020 taxes (via one of the software thingies), it did ask if I got any of the stimulus payments in 2020. There was a way (I think) to get the 2020 payments if you should have based off 2020 income, but didn't based off your 2019 status. That is how I read it anyway.

Not 100% sure on this, but when I did my 2020 taxes (via one of the software thingies), it did ask if I got any of the stimulus payments in 2020. There was a way (I think) to get the 2020 payments if you should have based off 2020 income, but didn't based off your 2019 status. That is how I read it anyway. That is what my Mom was telling me but I have not gone into it yet. I am putting off doing my taxes this year. Its going to be complicated as my situation was really odd financially in 2020 (like many peoples) and I am going to owe... So I am in no hurry to file. If that is true though that would be helpful.

That really would not make any sense at all. I would of gotten 6K potentially by waiting to file. AT the very least should of had a disclaimer prior to submitting my returns LOL
