The sight of blooming blue bonnets starting in Central Texas has always been a great indicator for me signaling fish are moving into their spawning areas making it one of the most productive times to fish. This proved true this past Saturday on Lake Travis.

White bass were schooling chasing bait fish at the mouth of a cove I happened to start. The shad were definitely moving around but throwing into the schools didn't yield anything. I switched it up and threw natural color fluke style baits at the shoreline and that pattern seemed to hold for the next couple of hours. A shad jerk bait mixed in brought in a couple dinks but by 9 o'clock five fish were in the livewell.

Time to go find a kicker and cull fish so next up was sight fishing for some big girls. The big wind storm on Wednesday really churned up the water as it was not gin clear even in the back of protected coves as expected. This probably worked in my favor with just enough color in the water to mask the line but enough clarity to see fish in 4' of water or less. Working a lightly weighted Texas rig snatched up a few bigger males.

The biggest fish of the day was caught on the tried and true Senko. It's mesmerizing watching the slow sink of that bait and just getting mauled.

Areas fished: I primarily focused in creek arms from Calcasieu Point all the way to the fork hitting a few coves and pockets along the way.

Observations: I'm starting to see grass develop in spots where I've never seen grass before. This could mean good things for the fishery in the coming years if it's allowed to continue.
