Myself with good friend Jeff made our last winter trip of 2021. We were supposed to be with our other good friend Steve, but he had to work. Me and Jeff launched our kayaks on our favorite river and decided to fish some docks that sometimes pay off this time of year. We were right. Bluegill and crappie were ready to play. Fished from 10am till 4pm and caught a bunch of both. All fish were caught on jigs in 5 to 8 feet of water. Chartreuse/Black and Red/Yellow got the best results . We even caught them on White Rooster Tails. Most fish were released but we did keep some for the frying pan. Boat traffic was very light the day we fished. Closing out the winter on a good note is a good thing. Looking forward to spring. woot

Side Note: What speed on the retrieve did you use on the Rooster Tail ?

Thanks for the replies. cheers Gitter: We were using a very slow retrieve. We were also using the lure like a jig. When the crappie were outside of the slips and close to the yaks we would simply just lower the lure down and would move it in a up/down motion. That technique works very well. Chuck: The Bluegill are getting ready to spawn. I would guess in about two weeks in the area where we were fishing. coolio

Thanks Curtis. Looks like one of the creeks I am fishing might start a little earlier. thumb
