My family will be heading up to Arkansas the week of August 7th through 14th. My kids are all teenage or older. We will be taking RVs to different places. I have to balance out some family activities along with my fishing though. I need to find a spot to rent ATVs and trail ride and other activities such as horseback riding. So all suggestions are welcome.

But of course MY main goal is to catch some fish grin I will be fly fishing so all tips on species to target and flies to bring are greatly appreciated.

We will start by heading up to Caddo Lake State Park where we can rent canoes and I can take my kayak out and fish for bluegill and bass.

We then have to head up to Little Rock Arkansas. I was looking at possibly staying at the Maumelle Park campsite and fishing the Arkansas River.

I want to fish the White River so I was looking at the Bull Shoals White River State Park.

Since I really don't know anything about the rivers and lakes or how they fish in August I am open to all suggestions of places in Arkansas to fish and enjoy fun family vacation activities.

Thanks

Might want to check out the Buffalo River. Beautiful part of the state and some good float fishing.

My family enjoys staying at Heber Springs. We fish the Little Red River for trout and go crappie fishing at Greers Ferry. My daughter went to PT school in Arkansas so I brought my poles every time I went to visit.

The Bull Shoals White River state park is really nice. You can fish right there. When you hear the warning horn get out of the water. When they start generating power the river comes up real quick there. It's not far from the dam. It's been my experience in August that the river will be down until 1 or 2 in the afternoon.

Go to the white river, everything you want is there, and it's awesome when it's summertime because the water is like natural airconditioning.

Great advice. My family loves to float tube the Guadalupe and Frio. I'm going to book something with Buffalo River Float Services.

Thanks Blondie, Greers Ferry keeps coming up in my searches. I see the world record Walleye was caught there. I've never caught a walleye before. I was looking a horseback riding location about and hour from there so it may work out.

Thanks Slim1. I am going to book at least one day at this park. Any advice on what species fish for and how in the morning vs. the evening when the water is flowing?

Thanks, I am going to fish the white river below the Bull Shoals dam. Is there another location on the White that I should be targeting?

The White River is one of the best Rainbow Trout river there is. They stock the rainbows to keep the fishing good. They also have Brown Trout. They don't stock these so they practice catch and release with these. There are guides who take people out fly fishing. see this post: https://texasfishingforum.com/forum...0080/great-day-on-the-white#Post13180080

I know a good crappie guide at Greers Ferry. If you are interested I will give you his info.

The Little Red River below Greers Ferry is awesome. At one time the world record brown trout came from there. Unbelievable rainbow trout fishing. You can also take the family and walk up to the top of sugarloaf mountain. Or visit the trout hatchery

The Buffalo may not be a good option in August if they haven't received a lot of rain. It is a natural flowing river and really only flows well after rains. We used to go every year in the Spring (March-May) for the 30+ mile canoe/camping trips.
