Tried to take my son fishing yesterday chasing the whites up the clear fork arm of the Trinity river that feeds into Benbrook lake. I have had great success there in years past, however much to my surprise, when I went to run up the river from the lake only got about a hundred yards and realized there is a giant log jam that keeps any boat from running up river. In fact I am not even sure that the fish can get up the river in that section. So we went to plan B, and tried to run up Bear creek arm, got past several bass fisherman, and one guy have some decent success chasing crappie. Couldn't even go back as far as the Bear creek park extends due to low water (mind you I have a 17 foot aluminum bass boat that can run in 12" or so of water). So we fished our way out of there, and nobody that I spoke with had been into the white bass at all. So unless you walk into the Clear fork section of the river, not even sure where or if they are running in this lake currently. Water temps in the main lake were running 54.5-56 degrees but back in Bear creek they were as high as 66.5 so the temp is right, shame we couldn't get into any fish. Also marked a absolute ton of fish on the Northwest side of the lake close to Longhorn park, tried to use a slab for a few, but again to no avail, plus the wind was absolutely brutal in my little boat yesterday. If anyone else is having luck right now feel free to share, don't need specifics just the basics of when, and what to look for? Thank you all in advance and tight lines!

Try Mustang first bend after you clear the timber line, steep bank side throw 3" white grub or small rattle trap also killer crappie spot.

That big ball of fish, over by Longhorn seems to always be there. I think it's carp or gar.

Walked Whiskey Flats last week. went about 1/4 mile past the power line crossing. Water is so shallow, could see the bottom.
They keep the lake so low, for so long, there are probably generations of sand bass that never had a creek to run in.

I walked back to the power lines after last nights rain thinking it might have made a difference, it didn't. No fishable water at all. Bummer man.

Yeah its a shame I used to be able to get my old boat almost 9-10 years ago all the up to the power line crossing on the clear fork arm of the Trinity and catch them until your arm falls off. Now you can't even get farther than Holiday park south. Not to mention about a week or two back I was crossing over the spillway that leads into Pecan Valley golf course and they were letting water out like crazy, even though the lake was already below full pool!! Poor Benbrook, it is nothing more than a holding tank for the surrounding cities. I understand that is what Benbrook was designed for, but for us fishermen it makes it a tough lake to pattern. I have good times and bad times out there and I hear that consistently from others that fish here often.

Ok with the good rains from tonight and more expected Wednesday, should get the creeks flowing a bit and the bite to turn on. Will be out there Saturday or Sunday for a bit and see if I can get into some action.

That’s what I’m hoping for on Tawakoni. Scoped out a couple places to try.
