Sorry if this is a repeat thread, but I would like y'all's expert insight into white bass staging timing by sex.

Here's my exact situation: a week ago I caught 4 females (with undeveloped eggs) and one male. This weekend, in the exact same spot I caught 8 males. Can I make any inferences about how far into the spawn it is based on this sampling, or is it a coincidence? All the articles say that the males get into the area first, and females later, they don't say anything about oscillations in the gender balance.

The run has a good month to go yet. I have caught them as late as may 25. Depends on how much rain gets into the creeks. When the creeks flow with rain runoff the sandies will bolt up the creek to spawn. If not they will spawn on windy points on the lake. Keep going and you will hit a stellar day soon

I agree. At least a solid month left. I have already caught some females that were spawned out but it is only the first wave. Typically, the females push up with rain so with not much rain, it will be mostly males probably

I caught several females full of eggs, and ready to drop, the first Sunday in March, but overall definitely more females than males, at least 3 to 1, that particular day. This was on the Brazos.

Speaking of swimming upstream, do you think they just keep swimming upstream as far as they can go till they encounter a barrier? Oh, also what did the white bass say when he hit his head? Dam!

They will swim up stream to find some fast moving water ( rapids eddy's etc ) . If they come to a barrier i am sure there is some water dumping over it ( Like HWY 78 low water dam ) and that will create a current of some type for them to spawn. If not i guess they will just bump there heads

They usually go as far upstream as the can until they hit a barrier or a rapid. Whenever it rains they will blow straight past a rapid. In the case Keith was talking about if there’s enough water they’ll swim over that dam. Sandbass are a powerful fish and they can clear some crazy structures when they have spawning on their mind. I remember one creek in particular I fished there was a concrete dam and I fished upstream of it and started pulling them out, when the water comes up they’ll just keep going.

You guys think they get upstream of the rapids north of PGBT on rowlett creek? Like up towards Firewheel? It'd be interesting to see how far they go up the creek.
