I guess I don't understand the problem. People castnet fish in every lake in tx. If Tilapia is the goal then just toss the bass back. For me shad is my target to use as bait. Old abandon trot lines are more of a problem in lakes than castnets. Those are a danger to people. The fact that people are using a castnet to chase tilapia, an invasive species is ok with me. Everyone doesn't have to fish the same way or for the same species as you. That said I don't agree if people are using castnets or any method to illegally harvest fish.

TPWD wants to pick and choose their battles, and castnetters is not one of them.
It could get too political and messy, so they just leave it out there.

So, they're asking that cast nets not be used in the prime catfishing months? Sounds like a way to keep nearly everyone except bass fishermen off the lake.
