Tell us what technique you are planning to use for each rod and we can give you suggestions on what we like best.

I want a spinning rod for finesse techniques, mainly light shakey heads and dropshots. I also am looking for a shorter flipping rod (around 7'3) since I prefer to pitch and be as accurate as possible.

Thanks for the advice. I am surprised to hear that the e6x was disappointing for many. Me and my dad, both love G. Loomis (granted we have only used their fly rods). Maybe I will get a sierra or champion xp instead. I have yet to ever try an imx or above, but hopefully one day I will get my hands on one.

Great, let me weigh in a little more. .

I actually recently got the E6X 802s spinning rod. It’s 6’8” and an extra fast action. I wasn’t too sure about the extra fast action. I really prefer fast action rods but the new IMX Pro rods are very different from the older IMX rods.. I love my OG Loomis IMX rods and have several of them. But I did not like the 802s in the IMX Pro line up at all. It was way too soft and felt like a noodle.

I really, really like the E6X 802s I have. The sensitivity is great. It’s a super light and extremely well balanced rod with the Tatula LT 3000d reel I have it paired with. It’s been fantastic for light jig head plastics.

To be honest, I’m still not too sure about the extra fast action. I’m a little worried it’s a little too fast for senkos and wacky rigged plastics that just sort of really need a soft tip. But I think it’s gonna be awesome for shaky heads and that kind of stuff.

Regardless, I liked the 802s so much in the short time I’ve been using it I decided to get the E6X 852s at 7’1”. Those rods are really hard to find right now though.

One thing about those E6X rods I’ve seen repeated. It seems like when they first came out in 2015 there were some issues. Loomis redesigned those rods and the newer rods that came out in 2018 are much lighter and better balanced. This is why you see “2018 E6X....” specifically listed as the rod’s model line name.

I think either rod, the 802s or 852s could be really good for what you’re looking to do with it.

Forgot to add I’ve also looked at the E6X 822 syr. It has a much softer tip and overall slightly softer action than the 802s. It could be your cup of tea. It felt like a terrific rod and could be perfect for your style of fishing especially if you’re planning to stick with really light plastics most of the time.

Agree with this. I have Dobyns Sierra 734's and 735. 734 has heavy fast action printed on the rod. It's their 4 power. Very well balanced and really good tip. 735 has mag heavy extra fast action printed on the rod. It too has excellent balance and a good tip, just a little stiffer tip. 735 (5 power) is the way to go for heavy cover and froggin.
I had an IMX Loomis that I really didn't like. Tip heavy. I think the e6 is even worse. I now have a GLX that is outstanding in every way except price, I think the Dobyns Champion, Shimano expride, and Falcon Caras are in the price range of the e6 and are very good to excellent.

Thanks everyone for the input. I am not sure what to buy. I will go the store and compare the gloomis and dobyns and see which feels better. Hopefully I make the right decision. I know they both make great rods.

What other brand of rods have you compared the E6X too since you say it is so sensitive. The one I bought was two years ago and it wasn't sensitive at all. I sold it after one trip to the lake. Mine was a bait caster not a spinning rod.

Ezbassin, I think sometimes there’s amazing rods in some model lines and at the same time there can be real duds.

Just because one rod is really sensitive doesn’t mean all of the other models or blanks in that same model line will have the same sensitivity.

I almost bought the E6X 843s spinning rod since one of my favorite rods is the Loomis OG IMX 843 in casting. This rod is super light and sensitive. The E6X 843s is much tip heavier. I haven’t fished it and can’t comment on the sensitivity. But just based on the weight and tip balance I decided I didn’t want it.

The E6X 802s is an awesome rod though. Great for #6-10 line. I’ll have fun fishing small stuff on it!

Upon further review I think I will go ahead and buy a sierra spinning 693 and put the rest of my money towards a nasci. Any thoughts on if this is a better decision? This way I can get a new rod and reel.
I still do plan on getting the 7'3 mag heavy fury.
Thanks again for all the help.
