I am thinking it's more likely something near the lake that the dogs are getting into rather than something actually in the water. There are a bunch of plants that are poisonous to dogs.

Side Note: There was a situation similar to this one several years ago on the Guadalupe River in Comal County. I think it had to do with some sort of algae or bacteria. noidea

Hopefully the vet had enough sense to order a toxicology report or send the animal to college station for testing. Seems to me if it was an issue with the actual lake water that there would be dead animals all around the lake. Harmful algae blooms can be localized but still, if it's powerful enough to kill a dog in under an hour there would be other mammals in the area dead.

No its actually in the water. Same thing happened to a dog here at Whitney 2yrs ago. They drink the water and get sick and sometimes die. and it happens quick.

Sounds like blue green. Killed a few dogs here on ladybird in the summer
