What’s a good plan for rigging/baiting, when working shallow?

Can use the same rigs you drift with: santee, 3-way, double, etc. If you use the long drift/snake sinkers, you may want to swap them for a disc, or bank style sinker. Also, depending on just how shallow, you may need to shorten your leaders if using peg floats.

Trent is a lot better at the shallow bite than I am but here is how I roll Ed. I probably carry more rods than most guys this time of year cuz I’m quick to change tactics if I’m not catching up shallow. I prefer not to have to rig while I’m on the water either. March and April I keep 8 rods on the boat for anchoring shallow and 8 more for pulling boards. if I can’t find em shallow in 5 or 6 spots then I change tactics and pull boards. Most of my drift rigs have sinker slides with slinky weights with 2-3 ft leaders which aren’t great for fishing in 2ft of water. I prefer a 3 way rig when anchoring so my floats don’t float to the surface from waves and boat shifting when it’s windy. I like a 1ft to 18” leader on my anchor rods and I use the brass eye clip on no-roll disks or coffin sinkers in mostly 2-3 oz. I use the brass eye clip on weights in case I need a heavier weight. I go up to 4 oz if I’m up in the river or creek where there is a decent amount of current. On my 3-way rigs i run about half with a float and the other half with no float. The rigs with no float I cast up into 1-2 ft of water and the ones with floats I cast out into 3 ft or deeper water.

If you use sinker slides with slinky weights when drifting and you plans on using those to anchor fish then replace the slinky with a brass eye disk like TRH advised and clip the sinker slide directly to the leader swivel so it will no longer slide. This will keep your rigs from trying to float to the surface if your lines aren’t tight.

There is a fine line between fishing and floating around like an idiot!!
