Got out and anchor fished this morning with my first mate Action Jaxon. We got bait in the channel in 42 ft and eaded north to the mouth of the Trinity. We anchored in 3 ft and fished in 1-3 ft. We had a slow steady bite all morning and ended up with 25. We kept the eaters and turned loose 6 that were between 8-12 lbs. Jax was happy he got to reel in a bunch of dinks so all n all a good day but I would have traded em all for 1 Toad. [Linked Image]

Thats great brother!

Yeah I have been hearing they on that shallow chomp. Sadly I have not been able to get out and fish much the last several weeks.

And now its bass season and I am torn lol.

Great work as always though Gato!

On Whitney Saturday, never fished deeper than 4 foot. 4 fish for 51.50 lbs and 9th place. We couldn’t get the 5th fish in the boat for some reason. 94lb, 5 fish stringer won it.

Solid work Chris. You and Jaxon sure beat the heck out of what Wyatt and I did Saturday. I think I need to look shallower in the shallows. I was in 6 to 10 FOW. Food for thought for next weekend! Or maybe I can sneak out sometime this week. Looks like it's gonna be continuing to warm up...

Good job bud. I was hoping to get a mess of eaters on Saturday but it didn’t happen that way.

Good post Chris.
Looks like Jaxon and the dog were having a good time as usual!

I took my wife out for a couple of hours Sat. afternoon. Found bait in about 25'. Started marking fish around same - 20-25'. Drifted with shad, drum and chicken and not a single bite... Water temp was about 52.5 give or take.

Looks like I needed to be really shallow, from your post and a couple of others.

Did catch a 1.6 crappie off the dock, so day was not a total waste! LOL And wife had a nice nap on the boat and was happy. So all good.

I will keep taking notes and trying to learn!

Thanks amigos! Did I mention I hate running box anchors? My hands are sore like they were used as a pin cushion. My hands hurt the whole month of March every year. All that nasty silt gets my hands infected. I’ll be glad when Jax can be the anchor man and throw a deep net!

I would have power poles if I shallow fished more often but after March is over I move out to mid depth and drift the sandbass pattern. Not to mention I pull Action Jaxon on a tube all summer and also throw my cast net off the back.

Just tryin to help save your hands bud.. I stay shallow more than anything. Also pull the kid and chunk nets off the back. As for drifting: drift paddles. Next on my list.

I appreciate your help amigo! We pull planer boards over mid depth structure 90% of the time. I used to anchor up half my trips but when I started power drifting with planer boards 5 yrs ago I anchor less and less every year. These days I anchor all of March, a little bit of April, and a little in October when I’m forced to fish shallow in order to catch fish. If I had power poles I would definitely fish shallow more. Maybe next year. My next big boat improvement is going to be a deck resurface in June.
