My son in law has a 96 Ranger with a Mercury 200 EFI. When he first got it I was always talking to him about how great the motor sounded and ran for an older boat. We ran around everywhere in it. Then about 3 trips ago we all of a sudden started having trouble getting it started. It would be cranking but took a while to start. Then the next time it took it seems like about 5 minuites of fooling around before it started. Seemed to run fine and would crank back up but just took forever to get it started when we first put it in the water. Then this last time we launched and never could get it started. It sounds like a boat does when you have the kill switch pulled. Would crank with no problem but no matter what we did it would just never kick in and start. We trolled around for hours doing everything we could think of with no luck. When we got off of the lake my son in law removed the cowling and started checking things. Seemed to have fuel getting to the motor, kill switch engaged and just started checking everything we could but never could figure out why it would crank, we would choke it, then we tried letting it sit. Moved the motor up and down in different positions. Nothing would help it start. Any opinions on what it might be. Thanks

I had same issue when I had that engine, Cabela’s replaced the squeeze primer line. That’s fixed it for 2 weeks. Failed out by Fork and Sartin marine reconnected it with proper clamping. Was good ever since. If you ever need an ECU, I have a rebuilt one sitting on shelf with receipt from Simon Performance. I don’t need it as I sold the boat.
