Went down to the Brazos between PK and Granbury today, to do some catfishing. Well, after finding zero shad on the sonar, and having no luck at all, noticed a few others catching some sandies. We tied on a few rattle traps and started trolling. Between me and a buddy we caught about 40, in a period of about two and a half hours, probably missed the hookup on about 10 others. A lot of smallish ones, a ton of eater size, and some hog, egg filled, mature females. All the egg filled ones were over 2.5 lbs, one was over 3. I was weighing the big ones, cause I know the record is just over 3.5 lbs. We got close, but no cigar. I was almost certain that 3 pounder we caught was a hybrid, until we got her right up to the boat. We turned them all back, so they could finish their trip, and make some more little ones to enjoy.
I was really surprised how warm the water was, we got on the water right at 7, it was 57 degrees, when we got off at 5, it was 62. If you had a blue and chrome rattletrap tied on today, you couldn't miss. Literally every time we got a line back out, we had another go down, and had a couple doubles as well. I'm wore out, and sunburned, but man we had a blast. Best day of fishing in a long, long time. What started out as a severe disappointment, with zero catfish, and no bites, the first half of the day, turned into a fiesta, after we rigged up some other rods to troll for sandies with.

I was out there as well yesterday. Not sure exactly where you were, but sure I passed by you as I saw a few boats trolling. Was wondering if the boats trolling caught any. We were casting roadrunners most of the day. We caught a ton of fish and kept 4 for dinner last night.
A LOT of big fish as well! Average size is the best I've seen on this stretch of river in awhile. Glad y'all had a good day as well and good to hear there were plenty in the deeper water! Should be good the next few weeks!

I went to the Nolan Monday and Tuesday caught 4 both days, other people were doing better but not much. Heard tales of limits being caught but did not witness any. Watched a fly fisherman slaying crappie at the far end of the bluff where the big tree sticks out of the water. Kind of funny, there were three bobbers that people had lost attached to the tree like little markers. Good luck, need more rain I think.

the Nolan just needs to be running then they will come running. There are some false runs so you can catch them but to actually experience the run there needs to be some water moving,

Is this near the 933 bridge over rock creek? I drove to whitney Sunday and there must have been 30 cars and trucks on the side of the road. The creek was pretty dry, but it looks like you can hike to the river.

yeah its like that every year, you have to go really early on a weekday if you can. I went last year, but this time someone actually put up a fence so you must walk down and around. You will get wet if you want to cross.
