March 5, 2021 water level 1072.32
44.68 ft low
Water Temp 55ish

March 5,2021:
Nothing like a week of ice and snow to slow down the boat ramp. Glad those days are behind us. Yesterday we caught several blacks up to 5lbs in 15-25ft. Another spot we caught whites, stripers, and crappie in 20-30ft. Jigs and swimbaits have produced the quality for me but we’ve caught several on Tx rigs, traps, square bills, and spinnerbaits. Past week Ive found a couple pockets of bed fish (6lb female largest Ive seen) but same as every year its few and far between to start. Most fish have yet to make the jump but that’s changing and changing fast. The snow and cold temps thinned out some of the grass. Its still there just not as thick. It seems the Coots are enjoying life as they continue to shred it. Several quality fish have been caught over the past month. A few just over 10 are the largest I know of with several 6-8lbrs caught. A couple 9s were weighed in recent tournaments. It will take a heavy bag to win the upcoming tournaments Bass Champs, Tx Team Trail, and a few others providing another cold front doesnt blow in. Timing should be spot on. Del Rio Hourly Big Bass is this month also. Last year I had a customer catch a 10 the day before the tournament. Could of would of should of been a $8000 fish - (should have been here yesterday)

If you’re Interested in a day on the lake feel free to call or text (830) 768-3648.

Thanks, Stan

FYI: To the boat running hard in the fog under the bridge recently...I’ve was there when a bass boat on plane during a tournament hit a houseboat in fog, I was there when a boat hit a bridge piling, I was there when lightning struck and killed two guys in a boat, I was there when Mike McClelland ran over a boat in front of him during prefish and the guy had to be taken out by an air flight and more. Yes accidents happen like last week on Amistad a boat flipped when the steering broke but some things you can control like not running 65 in fog... Don’t be that next guy. Wise up!

Yep hard to find is the usual.. but every Spring they show up and several big ones get caught mixed with the whites. Last year it was only a two week period I heard of people catching them then it was over. Past couple days Game & Fish had nets out for Striper surveys. I’ve yet to hear how that turned out. Would be interesting to find out if they had any crappie.

No. Most lakes they are next to something like a piling or in a tree. These were on the bottom 30ft deep in the middle of whites. Caught others recently on a bluff wall. The ones caught last year that I know of were caught when trolling for whites. Maybe that’s why we think Amistad doesn’t have many. They are living where we don’t fish for them.

Are they throughout the lake? I have seen a dead one floating up the devils river and wife caught hers by the rock quary.
Is there any up the Rio Grande?

I caught a couple in the Rio but it’s been a while back. Last Spring they were in the Devils.
