When I was little my grandpa used to take my dad and I trolling through the creeks on the west side of the lake and we would catch so many sand bass. Used to love It as a kid.
Would like to take my kids now but not sure when. Was thinking February or March? Can anyone help?
I can’t ask them unfortunately.

Speaking from Grapevine knowledge. Full moon in March, seems like the start of the fun. Think this is the big switch if I am not mistaken. But, would like to hear the other opinions.

I usually start the first of March and start scouting the pools for Males. The Females will not come up until later, but last year I was catching solid limits on March 3rd. Males, and lots of them. Last two years the rain has shown up right at the end of April and washed them all down. This was when the big females were just arriving to the stomping grounds. Think some spawn happened, but not much.

Just a side note to this, Grapevine generally starts later than most metroplex lakes.

When I lived in Roanoke it normally started the last week of February. Pretty consistent every year. A cold snap late in February will slow them down.

Usually in late February or early March the creek is full of sandies.
Lots of Shad this year so it will be a good white bass year.

Will the cold front next weekend affect the sandies being up in the creeks? Wanted to go trolling next Sunday but not if the cold is going to ruin that.

A cold front in Feb will push the fish back into the deep water at the mouth of creeks. Don't count on catching a stringer full of whites in the creeks until possibly the last weekend in feb, but it's more likely going to be the first part of march. It takes about 3 or 4 days of warm sunny days and nights in the mid 50's to keep them in shallow creeks. If you have to wear a jacket while fishing they won't be shallow.

I come from the water.
