The last of the Texas Parks & Wildlife Rainbow Trout stockings for the 2020/2021 season are coming to an end. Myself and fishing buddies Dale and Steve fished a hill country river and we caught some tanks. All three of us caught trout over one pound and were in the 15" to 16 " range. We fished both Saturday and Sunday from sun up till 11am. We caught plenty of trout. We kept 15 each day. Only four trout were under one pound. The rest were all in the one pound range. 95 percent of the fish caught were in the 12 to 16 inch range. We saw a couple of trout at least 24 inches in length that would follow the lure but would not take it. It rained both days but the fishing was well worth it. Plenty of BIG FIGHTS throughout both trips. Fish were caught on Gold Super Duper lures, Berkley Trout Bait- Yellow in color, and a wide variety of flies. Catching some NICE RAINBOW TROUT at the end of the stocking season. It just don't get any better!

Super Duper catch guys...gill season is right around the corner...

WOW...you guys sure did good. Yes sir, the Sunfish season is just starting to pick up. They are starting to gather and are sure fat. Now if the weather would just start to cooperate some with no more Arctic Blasts, This year should be a Dandy for sure.

You guys caught some slugs. Those are not your average stockers. It's a shame those trout can't survive year around!


Side Note: Were those stocked at or below the Trail Race? If so they would have a chance to survive year around. Again super fish and a super job!

Thanks Gitter for the reply. These fish were not stocked at the Trail Race. The ones that did not get caught, or eaten by birds or bass will be dead by the end of April if not sooner. I had five days of great fishing after this stocking and it was a lot of fun while it lasted.

Yea its a shame these fish die off. By the post you had made, you had a pretty good stocking season!

It was a great stocking season. Can't wait till next year! Will be hitting the road !

Thanks Curtis. TPW made several extra stockings. I guess people stopped following the stocking schedule. No more than three other people fishing at any given time at the one I was at. Talked with one of the anglers and he said he was the only one there when the truck arrived. I was fishing all by myself the fourth day after the stocking and was still catching 15 inch trout. I fished five days after the stocking day and there was never more than two other anglers present. We all caught some very nice Rainbow Trout each day !



Side Note: Over five pound limits on all five days.

Good news for us. I also caught my PB Texas trout. 16.75 inches. Did not weigh it but it would have easily gone well over a pound.
