I need to clean the awning that comes off my shed. At the highest, it’s probably 15-18 feet. The ground below it is mostly deep sand. If by chance I fall, is it best to try and land on my feet, or would doing a belly flop do less damage. It’s on a slope, so I guess a tuck and roll may come into play.

How is the best way to fall 15 feet with the least amount of damage?

The best way to fall from 15’ is to watch someone else do it.

Danny, I have a 12 foot fiberglass step ladder and a 12 foot long pool cleaning brush you can use if it will help. Give me a call at 254-226-0054 if you want them. If not you can come over and I will teach you how to do a good PLF(parachute landing fall).

That really is nice of him considering most of us would set up a lawn chair and pop a beer to watch it happen

From the way you describe the terrain, tuck and roll. I have taken a tumble from that height before in similar conditions, and the tuck and roll is what saved me from injury. I was on a scaffold screwing off some gyp board, and one of the wheels started to sink. The momentum was taking me away from the building, so I just went with it. Lucky for me there were no hazards in the way. Believe it or not, the fall seemed to take forever, almost as if time slowed down. I actually had time to look around and plan how I was going to land. Whatever you do, DO NOT STAND ON THE TOP STEP. especially on uneven, soft ground. it doesn't take much of a shift to knock you off balance. When I was in my twenties, I was bulletproof. Now I'm older, fatter, and injuries take a lot longer to heal. Good luck sir. Do not do anything unsafe, it's not worth it.

remember: once you pass the age of 40, bounce is no longer in your vocabulary.
