https://www.dallasnews.com/business...ler-griddys-ability-to-operate-in-texas/The Electric Reliability Council of Texas has revoked the ability for energy retailer Griddy to operate on its power grid.
The Houston-based company, which offers plans that are tied to the wholesale price of electricity, came under fire when customers faced staggering bills during a deadly cold snap that led to widespread blackouts across Texas.
ERCOT took away Griddy’s access to the state’s electricity market because of nonpayment, Bloomberg reported. The company’s customers will be moved to other electricity providers.

And ERCOT needs to find as many scapegoats as possible to protect themselves

ERCOT shouldn’t worry about that. There’s plenty of blame to go around.

That didn't take long.
Does this mean that the Griddy customers don't have to pay?

Does this mean that the Griddy customers don't have to pay? The payment was automatically withdrawn from some of their accounts. Hope they get some compassion from the state. The feds shouldn't have to cover this.

So is there any truth to people getting an email from Griddy telling them to switch to a fixed rate provider before the storm hit? I saw a couple people on some news threads saying that they received one but many others said they did not.

But , a lot of companies takes 7-10 days to switch service.

I don’t use Griddy, but my provider sent me an email offering a voucher if I switched to my provider of last resort (TXU). Mine asked me because I’m on a fixed rate plan and they said their a small business and were struggling. I didn’t switch. I use Energy Ogre to find me the best rates, and they’re great. I’m sure many providers sent similar emails, including Griddy.

What’s the difference between powertochoose.org and energy ogre? Energy ogre makes you pay a yearly subscription.

Because they were a small business and they'd rather you pay the $90/KW rate than cost them any money?

What’s the difference between powertochoose.org and energy ogre? Energy Ogre handles everything for you. Finds best rate, signs you up, divorces your old provider, etc. They setup auto pay, your login info for the provider is available when you log in to Energy Ogre, they stay on top of it, so when your contract is expiring they’re already working on your next contract. Power to choose, I think, just aggregates the options for your zip code, then you have to do all of the above.
