The utilities are incapable of regulating themselves. And they recently informed us it is worse than we think it is. We were moments away from third world status.

Luckily I'm in the small strip of East Texas under regulation. I end up having to call Baton Rouge when I have electrical issues (Entergy).
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

Deregulation makes it sound like it’s unregulated, which is not true. I’m waiting for a full recap of what happened, not one off articles with half truths.

At the power plant level we were regulated more than ever. At least before de-regulation the company was allowed to make X per cent return on its investment. After de-regulation the state told you what you could sell your MW’s for.

I will take a wild guess that deregulation caused better kick backs, lobbies monies, and salaries for the politicians and top dawgs in the companies.

Luckily I'm in the small strip of East Texas under regulation. I end up having to call Baton Rouge when I have electrical issues (Entergy). Pretty certain I'm on that same strip. We lost power at 0500 Monday morning. Restored at 2200. Out again at 1100 Tuesday morning, back on at 1500. Total outage time 21 hours. Hopefully they'll be able to winterize their equipment for the next time and we wont skip a beat. Our area was very fortunate that we didn't have any down line and the "problems" were all at the plants.

I don't recall what I was paying TXU before deregulation but I am sure mine is down. I read somewhere that the average rate is like $.124 per kwh. I am no where near that.
