1. Have a catchy title, something that will catch the Olds attention. Remember a catchy title guarantees the olds stop complaining about the weather for a moment to click on your thread. The younguns will click on anything, don't worry about them.
2. Once you have your click bait, your thread needs to have some meat and potatoes. Stir the pot a little bit, not too much controversy or you'll end up in vacation or bunker. Find your niche, when all else fails post a now drinking thread.
3. Now that you have what you consider a masterpiece, you need to keep it going, quote someone (preferably someone with high post count). Argue with them for no reason. If you make it to page 3 your post was a success.
