Went monday, threadfin shad dead floating everywhere. I tried to net gizzard in my usual spot (it's a deep 32' trench in a little creek channel surrounded by a 20' flats section). There were no gizzard there. Small balls of threadfin moving fast. I caught some but very small bait. caught several dead threadfin from the bottom or floating around. Could not find or catch gizzard.
I tried fish for a bit with the small threadfins, but literally shad floating everywhere didn't seem like a good day to fish. I left.
Time to regroup, it's been almost a week... - question is now, where could I find Gizzard? and Where should I fish?
When will the lake return to the normal pattern I've been fishing the last 2 months I guess is what I'm asking. We've caught about 5-6 30+ pounders this winter which is awesome for us.
Thanks!

I have not had a chance to get out after this cold snap. I would think that the fishing should be getting better everyday. They should be going good about now, I would think. The Shad that are left are starting to get old and most blues like fresh bait. Plus the ones on the surface should rot quicker. I canโt help you as far as depth of gizzards but there was a post earlier this week by el gato and he found tons of bait in 40+ feet of water. Look deeper

Gizzards would have been in the deepest part of Lavon and they would have been stacked 10 ft thick. If your fishing around a Shad kill you gotta use tiny pieces of bait and your looking for 1 or 2 good fish for the day. Good news is Iโm starting to get good reports from all over so things are returning to normal. As far as where the gizzards are now is a good question. Gotta get out there on the graph and hound dog em. I put in on the south end of my lake so I start looking deep first and then work my way up the lake checking depths in 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, then shallow. I start eliminating the deep stuff as the water warms up and I reverse where I look and start looking shallow first and then graph my way out to 30 ft. Iโm not saying my way is the best way but I always locate my fish this way. Might take me several hours to find them but I always find them. Getting them to bite good is a different story...I fish a lot of different lakes and I use the same method to locate fish on all of them.

I am heading to Lavon now. I will report back on the Gizzards (if I find them)

Found em! Shad that is. It took a bit. They were not where I expected them to be. I started looking in the deepest part of the lake and saw some small schools but nothing to throw at. Water had warmed up about 6 degrees on the surface from where it was at the coldest. Found them on the east side in about 38 feet of water. One throw and I had plenty. No big ones but they were all 4 inches or so. Drug baits for 2 1/2 hours without a bite. drug through scattered fish, stacked fish hit 'em in the head and couldn't get a bite. Got plenty of bait left, gonna hit 'em again tomorrow. Chris, I'm not saying I hope Jaxon gets rained out... I'm just sayin...I hope you can get on the water. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2021/02/full-115968-86796-capture_.jpg)

I saw a huge group of Cormorants diving the channel yesterday in 38 ft. Jaxonโs game just got rained out so weโre loading up and headed to the lake and see if we can get on some fish before the storms hit...

I found some shad also yesterday Tim. I found mine on a ledge drop from 20-30'. The ones I found were same size as yours. 2 throws and I have enough for the weekend. I could not find the big 10" gizzards I've been catching all winter though.
I no longer saw floating dead shad. I tried fish depths from 15-30'. No bites after 4-5 hours.
