I always thought California was supposed to be the land of the monsters...florida contending too. Aside from this week of course...seems like I been hearing a lot more big fish coming out of texas recently. Is Texas the #1 big fish state...or have I just been missing the reports of those cali and florida giants?

The parking lots at Fork, Falcon, Rayburn and Toledo have proved Texas is a bass fishing destination for years. Just as many out of state tags as Texas tags.

It's hard to put a number on who's top dog. In California and Florida a tremendous number of 10+ get caught. You just don't hear about it. Also a bunch of 13+ and real giants in California but seems it's going down with the lack of trout stockings. Florida has 10+ in ditches practically in people's back yards haha. It's hard to get a real grasp of Florida. So many places that have giants. But overall it's hard to deny Texas as bass capitol for sheer number if quality lakes

At any given time any one of these states can take over the #1 spot. Looks like it is Texas' time now.

I think Florida and Cali still have the bigger fish. But we have the better anglers.

Florida has produced a bunch of 12s-13s so far this year. Not a lot of fish get over that 13.5 lb mark though. Too hot down there and the burn out metabolically before they push up higher. California has been pressured into submission. Too many anglers, too few acres. Giants still occasionally appear, but it's way past it's peak. As Jarrett mentioned, they stopped trout stocking a good long while ago and that's really hurt the fisheries.

Texas has had a good spring so far no doubt about it. The best may yet be to come. I try and post as many big fish pictures as I can on my facebook page "High Percentage Fishing" (not a plug). It's been tough to keep up this year!

I would figure florida would be next level since TX and other states use florida genetics to get their bigs...but just going by the mainstream grapevine Ive been hearing texas a lot. Im sure it helps that I live in texas tho too...im sure those florida guys got their own communites where they talk about how on theirr lakes are

yup TX and NM getting hit hard...and we share waters too which doesnt help! LOL

butte is at 8.9% full...they should start drawing down in a month or so...probably will barely hit 10% if we are lucky.

true statement , I live in Cali ( retiring in Texas though ) --- we had so many really small lakes kicking out giant bass --- 14's and 15's every year . Nobody reported it because it was common . Since they stopped with most of the trout stockings --- those numbers have gone way down .
In one small lake , Coyote Reservoir , when the trout truck would show up and start stocking , you could see the huge bass move up and stuff themselves , slowly swimming around picking off the trout .
For the first few hours after they would load the trout into lake , they would swim around kinda stunned up shallow , -- the bass knew this and would destroy them .
Add in all the Lakes planted with Florida strains back in the 70's , 80's --- thats why Cali had so many Giants .
