A Democratic lawmaker in Chicago is pushing to ban the sale of all violent video games, claiming the graphic ‘Grand Theft Auto’ series – which debuted more than 20 years ago – is to blame for a wave of carjackings around the city.
State lawmaker Marcus Evans Jr. introduced an amendment on Monday that would “prohibit the sale of all violent video games,” including those that depict “motor vehicle theft with a driver or passenger present inside the vehicle when the theft begins.” He singled out GTA by name during a Monday press conference:

My thoughts are that whenever GTA6 finally drops, it'll be the most next level gaming experience the world has ever seen.

Ahh, grand theft auto, I remember it well. I never played video games but remember the game cause both my sons had it, probably still do. Neither one of them have ever carjacked anybody to the best of my knowledge haha.

I played GTA all through middle school and high school. I have never stolen a car, mugged someone, stole from someone or physically fought someone. It's more to do with your home life and upbringing. Politicians want to blame anything and everything except the dumb [censored] parents who raise these deviants.

Very complex, multifaceted issue:
IMO, graphic video games are somewhere on the spectrum of watching Boxing/MMA/NFL, Tom and Jerry or the Wiley Coyote/Roadrunner. They all stimulate the emotional enjoyment of violence in human nature.

I can say this, after a ton of time spent playing an epic session of GTA, if I headed out onto the real world road and saw an armored car, my initial reaction was I knew exactly what I needed to do at that moment. It actually makes you notice every single armored car on the road...like a hawk spotting field mice.

Ditto for some high end supercar. I'm just gonna take that sucker at the next stop light!
