Agreed. The recent 16.40 fish from Ivie has everyone excited about the potential for a new state record.

I would like to point out that 16.40 is a LONG way from 18.18. Not saying it couldn't happen as I'm typing this but odds are LONG

Seems like a 16 is capable of eating a big meal and being over the record. We might see one over 17+ if we didn’t’ take them out of the lake once they are in the teens

I kinda lean this way as well. The record was in ‘92 and if I’m not mistaken, all the fish over 17 were caught before that. So almost 30 years since we’ve seen a 17+

the difference between 16.4 and 18.25 is just a snack or two....so, no doubt it could happen any time, any where

Or that fish just gorged itself on a couple big crappie and that's the only reason it weghed 16.4

I'm technically challenged so I'm not sure if I'm doing this right but if not, just type in "Roland Martin World Record Quest Lake Baccarac Mexico" and fast forward to 5:50 to see a 19 pound fish out of the water. It makes you realize how true Senko's statement is. I would have a mild stroke if I hooked into something like that. It sure puts some of those old fish pics in perspective doesn't it?

Let me go ahead and answer the follow up questions regarding my old home lake. Lake Baccarac went dry a few years ago and they've now closed it down. There's no reason to Google it, ask about it or even think about going there. bolt

OMG!! that thing was huge. SON!! Wish they got the fight on film.

I believe that any lake with good forage, good cover, and good water depth 25'+, with Florida strain bass has the potential to produce 18lb.+ bass. That being said, probably less than 1 in 1 million survive long enough to grow that big. I believe if anyone does catch one it will be caught somewhere that shocks everybody. That's my opinion, which means nothing to anyone but me.

O.H. Ivey. New state record. It's gonna happen.

Many of those fish that were in the brood ponds came from the power plant lake beside my parents house. My dad watched TPWD shock the water and collect the fish. They told him they were taking them to the brood ponds at Fork. It’s a private lake that you can’t put a boat on. You can only fish from the bank a few spots where it backs up to the FM road. I know a 28 inch largemouth was caught from the bank. I’ve always thought there is a state record swimming around somewhere in that lake.

Tight lines and God bless.

After this last week with Sandlin, Travis, Conroe, Ivie, and Hubbard, I think she is out there hiding. These are just the known big ones caught

If she is out there to be caught, we will find out in the next couple of years. The tech is there to reach these untapped fish.
