What too many don't understand is that not all variable rate plans were entered into as a contract. If your fixed rate plan expires and you don't catch it, the provider will default you to m-t-m variable rate. Kind of a predatory practice to not notify customers of contract expirations. 1. I seriously doubt anyone can find a confirmed instance of a provider not notifying customers of contract expiration. They email, they send mail, they call, and they give you an online account where you can see it whenever you want, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It's not secret information. 2. When you sign up, you know the expiration date. Everyone has a cell phone and can put a notification in their calendar of the date. If not, they can use a paper calendar. Failure to do so is the customer's fault, not the provider's.

Went online after I noticed the bill going up and could not find any reference to my contract or the new plan, just a rate. Had to call in and it took the rep 5 minutes to lookup what plan I was on. Energy Ogre lets me know, but not the biz account provider. *Just to be sure I searched through my email again. I did find the cancellation notice when my office neighbor moved and ordered termination on the wrong meter. They let me know they were going to hit me with an early termination notice. As far as notice of contract expiration, nothing.

https://www.puc.texas.gov/consumer/facts/faq/Electricity.aspx#:~:text=Retail%20electric%20providers%20are%20required,date%20provided%20in%20the%20notice. Retail electric providers are required to notify residential customers at least 30 days before a contract expires. The residential customer can switch without incurring an early termination charge if the switch is no earlier than 14 days before the contract expiration date provided in the notice. If the customer takes no action in response to the notice, the REP will serve the customer on a month-to-month product. Guess no notice will be my defense if they try sticking it to me.

Capitolism at its worse. So sad you trust people and they will screw you when they can. It has nothing to do with capitalism. It has everything to do with people not paying attention, with people expecting to get bailed out, and people taking no personal responsibility. Like the OP said, read the fine print. Trust no one but yourself.

What he said doesn’t match the title of the article. Read what he actually said instead of just the title. Seems like another hit job to me.

It's all a big tube of lipstick being applied to an even larger pig. I have heard absolutely no one admitting fault. Buck passing at its worst.

I would bet that not more than 10% who signed the contract read the fine print. It is often purposely written so that it is difficult to read and sign.

Then you need to hire someone that can interpret it for you.And if you’re not willing to do that well, that’s on you. It’s pretty simple in my book.

Capitolism at its worse. So sad you trust people and they will screw you when they can. Do you have something against capitols? Would that be state or federal capitols? How about capitalism? Maybe that one? They are two different words, though I believe capitolism isn't an actual word.

Just saying.
