Any dangerous sand/mud bars out there? depending on the river level,if you get out of the channel,there's a lot of sand/mud bars out there...woudn't term them as dangerous but you can ground your boat if you don't stay in the channel..lot of rock dikes you have to avoid also but real danger on Miss. river is the towboats...like trains,they can't stop and you could get run over if your boat got disabled and you couldn't get out of their way....

And those towboats creat some weird currents and empty tugs running at speed can push quite a wake. I fished the Neches River between Sabine Lake and Beaumont frequently years ago and dealt with the tug boats and large ocean going ships frequently in my 18' Ranger.
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.
