The Indiana House voted Monday to eliminate the license to carry a handgun in the state -- an apparent victory, at least temporary, for supporters of Second Amendment gun rights.

House Bill 1369, which passed the House by a 65-31 vote and now heads to the Senate, repeals a law that requires a person to obtain a license to carry a handgun in Indiana, according to the Indianapolis Star

It allows for any person who is lawfully able to carry and possess a firearm to do so without a government-issued permit or license, reports said. The bill specified that certain offenders still could be prohibited from carrying handguns.

Constitutional Carry

Why is Texas so far behind on this?

Texas probably doesn’t want to lose the revenue from license fees.

Texas is just a middle of the road state when it comes to gun rights and even conservatism.

Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

This, and the Tx legislature should pass constitutional carry soon before it turns into a blue blob.

Does that mean that they don't need training to carry a gun? I think that we do it better by requiring basic gun skills and knowledge of the law to carry a gun.

Texas has no state income tax so they have to collect revenue by other means.

Because Texas is a large, populous state; it has a long history of supporting a smaller federal government and a larger, more powerful state government (sold to the public as state’s rights)

In Alabama, the CC permit is issued by the county sheriff for $20 a year, max 5 years. Only a minimum background is performed. Some sheriffs were found to have failed to do that, which is why a Alabama CC does not get you past the background check when buying a weapon via a FFL.

From what little I know about politics, Indiana has become a very conservative red voting state. Kinda like an Oklahoma but in the Midwest.

Thanks, Billy

I spent some time in Indiana this summer. Overall it feels very conservative. Even the few democrats I came across were moderate by comparison to their far left colleagues in other states.

The remote lake region I was mostly at had hundreds of lake cabins and campgrounds flying Trump flags. A day didn’t go by that a caravan with up to a hundred vehicles, from trucks to golf carts, all with Trump flags flying with openly armed guys and girls paraded by stopping traffic.

How does Texas really compare as a conservative red state? In the 2020 election, 25 states voted red in the presidential race. Out of the 25 red states, Texas was ranked near the bottom. 22 out of the 25 red voting states had a higher percentage of voters cast red ballots compared to Texas. Only two other states that voted red, North Carolina (1 percent) and Florida (<3 percent), did so with a fewer point percentage spread than Texas (5 percent).

Indiana voted red by a 16 percentage point margin but that only put them in the top 15 red states. No getting around it, Texas is now a swing state. My concern for Texas is 2022 and especially 2024…
