Who uses braid to fish for crappie? If you do please list Brand and Size. Do you tie on a leader?

I have used 5lb powerpro before for casting/slow rolling a grub in the spring looking for spawners. Not recommended around a lot of stumps because the wind catches the line and will have it blown around 17 stumps before you can start reeling.

I used 20lb Sufix for a while. But like all braid, it’s very limp. Gave up on it as I got tired of it doing a double dally slip half hitch snare loop snot knot around my rod tip every 5 minutes on windy days. The guides I’ve fished with all seemed to just use 10lb mono (Stren) so I switched to that and haven’t looked back. Cheap enough to replace often and tough enough to horse them in when needed. Even caught a 40lb blue cat on a 10 foot Pro Angler with it.

PowerPro Super8Slick, 30 lb test. I almost never cast, but with a 1/4 oz jig head I can get almost all the line off a 1000 series reel. When I first went to braid I used a leader. For me that kinda defeated the purpose of braid. I fish a lot of brush and back then I hadn’t quite figured out how to fish it without losing a lot of jigs. So I went to braid. Quit using a leader and didn’t notice any difference in catch rate. I’m a little better now but don’t see any reason to change now. I did go up in size a couple of times, as I use a lot of unpainted jig heads and found 15 and 20 lb would pull thru the gap in the jig eye. This is not a problem on painted jigs. I haven’t tried all the braid out there but the ones I have tried are no where near as smooth and quiet as PowerPro. I also like being able to get it in 1500 yard spools. All of this is JMHO. Others have their own wants and needs in a line. Give it a try and see how it works for you.

PowerPro Super8Slick 8# with a six# leader. It makes a difference...sometimes. Yes I break off, but that justifies the extra rods.

I have gone to 30 lb suffix 832, I use a mono leader so I can tie a loop knot , I use a big bead and swivel, shows up great on livescope and keeps certain little folks from cranking fish to the rod tip. You would be surprised how much attention the bead draws from the crappie. Many times I have seen them swim past the jig and check out the bead.

I have used nothing but braid for several years now...20lb Power Pro in green and yellow colors. No leader.
Only reels of mine that still have mono are my dock shooters.

20lb K9 braid for me. And like Duck_Jerky, I use mono on a rod I use for dock shooting.

PowerPro Super8 Slick 10lb test Hi-Vis Yellow with a 6 lb fluorocarbon leader 18" length. I've been adding a bobber stopper with a bead - bullet weight - bead setup on the braid, then a swivel between the braid and the fluorocarbon. It shows up real well on Livescope.

Kastking from Ebay or Amazon. free s/h - You won't find a good quality braid for the money. ($14 for 328 yd.) For light lures, 8 lb test (2lb diameter) - cast lures as light as 1/16 oz a long distance. Use it on spincast, baitcast and spinning reels. For heavier lures and cover, 12lb test
Rarely use a fluorocarbon leader except when ice fishing.
