Bass Pro Shop calls it a Cat-O-Matic. I remember it being called a yo-yo. Who has ever fished with one?

My grandparents had some on their dock at Cedar Creek when I was a kid. Never seen one in action though.

Used them all the time in Arkansas in the Hurricane bottoms. Flat bottom boat, skulling paddle, three or four dozen minnows and a mess of crappie was in the future. I think they are illegal in most places now so check before you buy.

I used them in Louisiana a lot. Caught a ton of crappie and quite a few LMB. Friend of mine caught a 4.75 lb. crappie on one. Lots of fun to set a couple of dozen out and run them 3 or 4 times during the night. I still have a dozen of them.

No, you cannot use a yo-yo for taking fish from Texas public waters."

The key word is PUBLIC waters. I would assume you can use them on a private lake though.

There used to be a device similar to a YOYO that was legal to use in Texas. It used a stout rubber band to set the hook and did not pull the fish, regardless of size up out of the water to die. Pulling the fish up out of the water was the reason the yoyo was banned. The device worked good but I have not seen one in many years.

I grew up yo-yo fishing in Arkansas with Mamaw and Papaw. We never left them unattended though like a trotline. We would set about 25 of them at a time in standing timber and fish with jigs while we ran them. The numbers of crappie we would put in the boat were absolutely ridiculous.

I grew up in Arkansas. I remember seeing one at Lake Fort Smith with a huge cottonmouth on it just floating on the surface with a thick line coming out of his mouth. Not sure how the owner dealt with that.

John 21:3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee.

That is when the snake gets himself a free yo-yo!

Heading up to Ark this weekend for yo yos and squirrel camp. They were all over Caddo back in the day but folks not running them and fish hanging out of the water put a stop to that. College room mate lives in Pine Bluff and went to a sale where they made them. Bought a half of pallet worth. Whites- out of business.

Haven't been in my lifetime. Now that being said, I have seen 100's of them over the years on public water.
