If I’ve learned anything from this storm is that I need a set of winter tires for driving.

When I was younger I remember we bought Cooper tires that had an aggressive, self cleaning thread. Not sure if they lasted forever but you could drive in most anything.

What tires have you had a good experience with driving on the ice and snow???

For as rarely as we have winter type weather the expense isn't worth it. Besides where would you go to get the tires switched out on your wheels, or would you just have a spare set of wheels and tires taking up space in your garage?

i have a 2018 Tundra. The factory all-season tires did just fine. I'm going to replace with the same or maybe Michelin.

Was your 4WD?

Also knowing how to drive in freezing conditions is important.

People up north change tires during the winter, or at least they used to.
Back in the late 70's and early 80's when all the Yankees were moving in it was not uncommon to see a set of snow tires and flat snow shovels in the garages of new homes.

For those few times when you need extra traction in Texas tire chains and weigh over the drive wheels help.

Most don't get a new set of wheels up north.

You go to like Discount Tire and have them changed, Store in your garage.

We have a Tacoma off-road four-wheel-drive. We just went from Cooper all-terrain to Goodyear Kevlar all-terrain. I’ve traveled to Fredericksburg several times(Bell Mountain covered in ice/snow) and Llano several times this week without any traction issues. So far we like the Goodyear tires.

The factory tires that came on the Tundra were Great. When it was time to replace them the same tires had been discontinued.so I picked the same brand style best I could.

Two wheel drive but added bags of sand (500lbs) to the bed to help with traction.

I have had the nitto, cooper and now falken at3 on the ford, the falken have been outstanding in rain and now in snow, check them out for pricing as well as mine were a lot less than the other 2.

I've had pretty good luck with Cooper AT3 s in the snow. They are not knobby but they have deep enough tread to get some traction.

On my cars, I've had great luck with Michelin Symmetry M+S and Pirelli tires. My mom had some Primewell tires (Girestone brand) put on her Frontier truck a few months back and they did well this week.
